Certified Villain? Well, That Escalated Quickly!
Have you ever woken up one fine day, stretched your arms, and thought, Ah, what a beautiful day to be misunderstood? No? Just me? Cool.
Lately, I’ve been feeling like I unknowingly walked onto the set of a movie where everyone decided I’m the villain. And not even the cool, well-dressed, sarcastic kind. Nope. More like the misunderstood character who gets roasted for crimes they didn’t commit.
It’s funny how you can be nothing but genuine, yet somehow, the script flips, and suddenly you’re labeled as rude, arrogant, or worse—"changed." Oh yes, the classic "You’ve changed!" accusation. (Well, of course, I have, Shalini, it’s called growth. Maybe try it sometime?)
The worst part? You start questioning yourself. Am I actually rude? Did I say something wrong? Should I start sending voice notes instead of texts so people can hear I’m not plotting their downfall? But then you realize—no matter how hard you try to be nice, there will always be someone who paints you as the bad guy in their own little narrative.
And oh, the talent some people have for crafting stories! If storytelling paid well, some of these folks would be billionaires. One day, you’re minding your business, and the next, there’s a whole committee discussing your alleged attitude problem. If only they put this much effort into their actual lives, we’d have world peace by now.
Now, here’s the tricky part: Not letting it affect you. Sounds simple in theory, right? “Oh, just ignore them!” “Don’t let it get to you!” Easier said than done. Because no matter how much you try to brush it off, it does get to you. It creeps into your head late at night, makes you second-guess yourself, and leaves this awful lump in your throat. You tell yourself you shouldn’t care, but guess what? You’re human. It will bother you.
But what do you do when you feel like you’re drowning in negativity? You take it one day at a time. Some days, you’ll laugh it off. Some days, it’ll sting. And some days, you’ll just want to disappear under a blanket and binge-watch a show where the main character actually deserves the villain edit. But through it all, you remind yourself that people’s opinions don’t define you.
So, to all my fellow “villains” out there—cheers! May we continue being our unapologetic selves, let the rumors fly, and remind ourselves that if they’re talking, we must be doing something right.
And if all else fails…maybe I’ll just start carrying a cape. Might as well commit to the role, right?
This strongly sums up why we're all just a scape goat for someone, but committing to the role does sound good ;)
